I would be very happy to receive some good, new Monhegan poems.[/i]

Where have all the poets gone?

I should have said that many of the latest poems posted have ben recycled ones from previous years. They are wonderful and well worth re-reading, but new ones would be more than welcome. Peter has suggested that Poet's Cove readers try their hands at haiku (three lines, fourteen syllables, nature (and Monhegan) related.

time to study...

What a wonderful idea - I have just "Googled" Haiku and found a comprehensive teaching site for the ancient Japanese form, whose syllables apparently range from 11 to 17. However, the basic idea is simplicity - a short poem that is "like a breath." I love that... I have a little book that Marjorie Pratt gave me years ago, still packed away from a recent move. It sat on my desk for twenty-five years-plus and it was Marjorie's own Haiku...gentle as she was and also as wise. Next rainy day (tomorrow?) I will sit and study the form and hopefully be able to write, even if only from memory.
