Stewie by Kevin Beers

” I used to love watching Stewie standing in the back of  The Island Inn truck looking off into the distance waiting for the boat. The whole boat ritual is such an integral part of  Monhegan. It’s a great ritual to have to punctuate your trip by getting on a boat. You really feel like you’re going someplace special. Or leaving someplace special.”- Kevin Beers

Great article on Kevin Beer’s Art Show at Gleason Fine Arts Portland Gallery here! The Show is there through March 31st!

  1. I saw this exhibit during the First Friday Art Walk in Portland where I live. These paintings were perhaps my favorite out of all that I saw that night.
I think my two favorite, and this is probably just for personal reasons based on their names, we’re Elizabeth Ann and After the Last Boat. My mother’s name is Elizabeth Ann and that’s always the boat my family and I take to Monhegan. After the Last Boat reminds me of the time my father and I did miss the last boat and had no place to stay but then a very nice couple took us in for the night and fed us the most amazing fish chowder. True Monhegan hospitality.

I noticed on the gallery website that the artist is giving a talk on March 8th at 5:30. I know where I’ll be that Thursday night.
