So long, it’s been good to know yuh

So long, it’s been good to know yuh;
So long, it’s been good to know yuh;
So long, it’s been good to know yuh.
This dusty old dust is a-gettin’ my home,
And I got to be driftin’ along

Monhegan Commons will no longer be up dated on a daily basis, and the plan is to end it altogether on Columbus Day.  It has been good to know yuh, but I got to be driftin’ along.  Thank you Jim, Marjorie, and of course all of you.

Peter

  1. Ugh, how I hate to see Monhegan Commons end… It has been our place to “visit” when visiting the island wasn’t possible… We have so enjoyed every single post, and it will be a huge void after Columbus Day for sure! Peter, I would not have a WordPress blog if it wasn’t for you, so thank you… I am doing the postaday2011 challenge and I see what you mean about a daily post… It IS a challenge. We will miss you dearly!

  2. Peter, I will miss this site and you. I wish you well. Know that you have given such “joy of place” to so many….for such a long time. With GREAT appreciation , thank YOU.

  3. This is sad news for those of us who come to Monhegan Commons daily and thereby return to the island, if only by photo or word. Thank you, Peter, for your dedication to the site, to the island, and to its people (far flung though many of us are). Your deserve a rest!

  4. What can I say, but “sigh …” (and for Peter, aaahhhh!”)

Hope I can still see you in October to taste some cheese and hoist a glass or two to the many memories.

Thanks for being a part of my Life!

  5. I am just adding another sigh to those already sighing and another major thank-you to Peter (and Jim and Marjorie too) for enriching my life – through many seasons!

  6. Peter,

Thank you so much for your dedication and passion. It has been nice to come here when we need our Monhegan fix during the year.

  7. The poetry feature will continue until October. New submissions will be more than welcome.

  8. I am so grateful to you for keeping the online Commons going – it has been a portal to staying in touch with issues concerning the Island (energy development, etc) as well as a personal moment and a deep breath each time I viewed a new photo of a moment of natural beauty on the beloved island on the website!

Best of luck to you and yours in new endeavors!

  9. Peter,
Every morning, the first computer activity I do is to see what wonderful stroke of the brush you’ve taken to add to the beautiful painting called Monhegan Commons. Many pieces of incredible art have been realized on that island, but your’s is the only one I know of that changes every day, and in so doing makes the picture alive and in real time, almost like I’m there, even if I haven’t been in over four years. I guess I’ll have to make it back up there later this year since I won’t be able to hit refresh on my computer to get back in focus. Thanks for creating my favorite painting of Monhegan,
and all the best of luck in the future.

    Kip

  10. Thanks Peter, it’s been a wonderful ride. Have no worries about bringing this chapter to a close for in doing so you are giving us all, including the island, a gift. Now it goes without saying that your dedication in providing visual and literary remembrance of Monhegan over the years has been greatly appreciated. However by letting go and setting the island adrift, to be searched for and discovered in our own minds eye. You will only strengthen the memories of the qualities that make Monhegan the jewel that it is. Just as great fish stories tend to become more magnificent over time, so will our fondest memories of Monhegan. Thank you Peter, you have baited the waters well, now it is time for all of us to go fishing.

  11. I too have enjoyed the Monhegan Commons website for years, on a nearly daily basis. It has brought me for a moment each day to this wonderful island when I can’t physically be there. You’ve given so many of us satisfying doses of Monhegan to refresh us. Thank you for making it happen for so long, and enjoy the well-deserved rest.

  12. Not sure what to say or how to say it,
I understand the change of current,
    Change of heart,
A compass pointing to a different north,
but oh! for every nod of empathy
    the heart weeps negation, denial
    begging for another solution
    extension
some way forward where words may mingle freely,
    hearts touch,
and spirits murmur secret truths to one another…
    oh, how banal and juvenile,
but I want this place in my past and in my future
and perhaps I can’t have it
but that will never stop the wanting

    1. Larry, you have captured and spoken it as it is in my heart also……yes, well said indeed…RA

  13. My one brief visit to Monhegan many years ago left an indelible imprint and I’ve greatly enjoyed all the virtual trips back that I’ve been able to make [from way upstate New York] through this website. The photography alone has been phenomenal! Thank you to all who made this website possible. I’m really going to miss it.

  14. Peter, thank you for all that you’ve given us over the years. As you know and as you can see, it’s meant a great deal to a whole lot of us. It’s been my pleasure to provide a bit of photo and dollars support. I wish you every happiness, success, and contentment possible as you begin moving down the other path.
